Warren Heritage Society Opens Exhibit on Little League and Baseball History
The Warren Heritage Society will celebrate generations of local baseball with a new exhibit opening Wednesday, July 15, at The Ivy Lodge in Front Royal.
“Play Ball! A History of Little League and Baseball in Warren County” will explore the people, teams, and memories connected to the sport across the community. The exhibit will remain open through the fall at The Ivy Lodge, located at 101 Chester Street.
Visitors can see the exhibit during regular museum hours, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Wednesday through Saturday.
The exhibit offers a look at baseball as more than a game. For many Warren County families, Little League and local baseball have been part of summer life for decades, bringing together players, coaches, parents, and fans at fields throughout the area.
The Warren Heritage Society is inviting residents to take a walk through that history and remember the teams, seasons, and traditions that helped shape the community’s connection to the sport.
An opening reception will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday, July 23, at The Ivy Lodge. Organizers noted that the reception date has changed from an earlier announcement.
The reception is free and open to the public. Hot dogs and popcorn will be served, and visitors will have an opportunity to view the exhibit, talk with other guests, and share their own baseball memories.
The event is designed to give longtime residents and newer community members a chance to connect over a familiar part of local life. Stories from former players, coaches, families, and fans can help add a personal side to the records, photographs, and objects that preserve Warren County’s past.
Little League has long served as an introduction to organized sports for children, while local baseball has provided a place for neighbors to gather and support young athletes. The memories often extend beyond wins and losses to include friendships, family traditions, and summer evenings spent at the ballpark.
The exhibit also reflects the Warren Heritage Society’s broader work to preserve and share local history. By focusing on a community pastime, the organization is highlighting a part of daily life that may not always appear in traditional history books but remains meaningful to many residents.
Sports history can tell a wider story about a community. Team photographs, uniforms, scorebooks, and personal recollections can show how neighborhoods changed, how traditions continued, and how generations of residents spent their free time.
Baseball also has a way of creating shared memories. A close game, a first hit, a championship season or a familiar coach can remain part of a family’s story long after the final out.
The July 23 reception will give visitors a chance to contribute to that shared history through conversation. Organizers are encouraging community members to come ready to enjoy the exhibit and talk about their own experiences with the game.
The exhibit’s summer opening also arrives at a fitting time, when local fields are active, and baseball remains part of the season’s rhythm. For visitors, the display may bring back memories of Little League uniforms, concession stands, dusty ballfields, and evenings spent cheering from the sidelines.
“Play Ball!” will be open to the public beginning July 15 and will continue through the fall. Museum hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday.
The Ivy Lodge is located at 101 Chester Street in Front Royal. The opening reception begins at 5 p.m. Thursday, July 23, and is free to attend.
