William “Bill” John Mathers (1935 – 2026)

William “Bill” John Mathers, 90, of Goldvein, Virginia, passed away on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at Blue Ridge Hospice, Winchester, Virginia.

A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on September 4, 2026, at Maddox Funeral Home, 105 W Main Street, Front Royal, Virginia, with Pastor Justin Dove officiating. The family invites guests to visit one hour prior to the service. Following all services, his burial will take Place at Shenandoah Memorial Park in Winchester, Virginia.

William was born on December 6, 1935 in Glascow, Scotland to the late John and Jean Hughes Mathers. He was also preceded in death by his loving wife, Charlotte Virginia Evans Mathers, and his brothers, Chris and James Mathers.

Surviving William are his children, Katrina Burkhart (Clyde) and Eugene Stroup; his brother, John Mathers; his grandchildren, Michael Tobin (Angii), Amanda Brewer (Ethan), Mark Romagna, Josh Romagna, and Hunter Romagna; and his great-grandchildren, Everhett, Cecelia, Caleb, Ayden, and Jackson.

William served two years in the United States Army and spent a lifetime working for Greenhorn and O’Mara as an engineer until his retirement.

Pallbearers will be Michael Tobin, Hunter Romagna, Josh Romagna, Mark Romagna, Ethan Brewer, Jamie Mathers, and Eric Sporre.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 W Cork Street, Winchester, Virginia 22601, or to the Warren County Humane Society at 1245 Progress Drive, Front Royal, Virginia 22630.
