Mindful Monday: Himalayan salt lamps basic tips

Published

on

Have you been wondering what is the story on Himalayan salt lamps? Well, here are a few reasons people use Himalayan salt lamps, how they work, where to find salt lamps locally, and how to place them in your home or office.

Let’s start with how Himalayan salt lamps work:

A basic science lesson will help. All matter is made up of molecules which are made up of particles. These particles have different “charges” which can be negative (electrons), positive (protons) or no charge (neutrons). Our homes often have a lot of positive ions floating around.

These positive ions can have poor effects on our body. As a Himalayan salt lamp heats up it attracts and absorbs water molecules as well as any foreign particles they may be carrying and positive ions. As the process continues, the water evaporates back into the air and the other particles such as dust, pollen, smoke, pet dander, mold, and mildew remain locked in the salt! In addition, the salt lamp expels negative ions which have good health benefits for us.

Reasons to use Himalayan salt lamps:
1. Reduces allergies
2. Cleanses & deodorizes the air
3. Boosts energy levels
4. Enhances mood
5. Improves sleep

Where to find salt lamps locally:
1. Mountain Mystic, 215 South St B, Front Royal, VA 22630
2. Better Thymes, 417 South St, Front Royal, VA 22630
3. Walmart / Target – may or may not have in stock, but you can order online.

Where to place salt lamps:
Place your salt lamps in the rooms you use the most. Also, set them in rooms where you have electronics. Electronics are one of the biggest positive ion producing sources in your home or office. You will find there are different sizes of salt lamps available for purchase. A general rule to consider is 1 lb of Himalayan salt crystal will cleanse the air in approximately a 4′ x 4′ area.
