Bentonville man arrested after threatening neighbor

BENTONVILLE – A Bentonville man is being held without bond, charged with assault and battery and using threatening language over public airways, after a Saturday incident in the Bentonville area. James Bowles, 36, of 258 Louwill Lane, allegedly fired a a gun and threatened to harm a neighbor, according to a media release from the Warren County Sheriff’s Office.
Major Kahle Magalis said in a written statement that deputies were called to investigate a report of someone who had been threatened at 1204 Bentonville Road. The victim told deputies that the threats were made by Bowles, after which the victim reported hearing gunshots coming from Bowles’ home.
Magalis said deputies could see a man trying to conceal himself by low-crawling in a field with an unknown object in his hand, after which they lost sight of them. Shortly after that, the deputies heard shots fired in an unknown direction from the area where Bowles was last seen.
The Warren County Sheriff’s Office Special Operations Team and Crisis Negotiations Team responded to the scene. Deputies determined that Bowles had discarded the firearm and continued through the woods.
Bowles was located by deputies at Catron Ridge Road; he was arrested by the Special Operations Team and transported to the Rappahannock-Shenandoah-Warren Regional Jail where he was held without bond.
Park Police from the Andy Guest State park in Bentonville also assisted the Warren County Sheriff’s Office in handling the call.
