Michael David Bates (1969 – 2025)
Michael David Bates, 56, of Front Royal, Virginia, passed away on July 11, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Texas on April 7, 1969, Michael’s life was a testament of love, family, and perseverance.

Michael proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps and later worked in security, rising to the position of Vice President at Sentry Force Security. He brought joy to everyone around him. He was always cracking jokes, showing off his infamous dad dance moves, being goofy, and finding ways to make people laugh, even in the hardest moments.
Outside of work, Michael was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He loved spending time outdoors, especially shooting, hunting, and fishing. But more than anything, he cherished his time with his family. Whether he was helping his grandkids look for Bigfoot or watching movies with his beloved wife Heather, he was happiest surrounded by the ones he loved.
Michael is survived by his wife, Heather Bates; his mother, Bette Williams, and her husband Jack Williams; his seven children: Alexander Meade, Amanda Bates, Elizabeth Carr, Sara Bates, Colton Bates, Hannah Bates, and Michaela Bates; and his four grandchildren: Ellie Carr, Jaxon Carr, Easten Harmon, and Marilyn Ernest. He was deeply loved and will be missed more than words can express.
Michael’s legacy is one of strength, laughter, and unwavering love. He changed countless lives for the better, and the impact he made will live on through the people who knew and loved him dearest.
