Thank You Melody Hotek

Too humble to say so herself and too quick to emphasize the team effort – simply put, we could not have had a better person to lead Samuels Library through these troubled times than Melody Hotek.  As the President of the Samuels Library Board of Trustees, she has been the friendly “face” of Samuels Library for the past 3 years.  (Julia Roberts will play her in the movie)

Melody Hotek is a soft-spoken, reasonable leader who has been underestimated by the Board of Supervisor (BOS) bullies.

When the BOS bullies published their internal library study and did not allow the library to respond, Melody held numerous town hall meetings and invited the supervisors and citizens to hear the facts.

When the BOS bullies formed their stacked library board of book-ban supporters, Melody politely informed them that a non-profit could not take operational direction from a government agency.

When the BOS bullies requested bids on a library contract, Melody politely informed the BOS that as a non-profit that owns the books and equipment and has a 14-year left on its lease, Samuels LLC could not bid on the contract.

Throughout these hostile attacks, Melody has been more than reasonable, and now she is resolute — “Samuels Library isn’t going anywhere.”

Thank you, Melody Hotek, for your untiring leadership. We stand with you in defense of our world-class library.
