At the February 6th Warren County School Board meeting, Alan Fox, Director of Secondary Instruction requested approval of the 2019-2020 Program of Studies. The Program of Studies booklet was prepared to provide pertinent information related to scheduling guidelines and available course options for students. The regulations and course descriptions will assist them in preparing a schedule for the upcoming school year and in planning a personalized plan of studies for the future.

In addition to specific course offerings, the Program of Studies document contains important information regarding graduation requirements. It explains the number and kinds of credits needed for various diploma options. Also, the document states the types of verified credits necessary to meet state standards for graduation. Download program document here.

Also two scholarships were approved by the Board. The first was the What Matters “Star” Scholarship. A beloved annual tradition continues in Front Royal as a 93 year old’s wish was granted. Ronald P. Rossi had been lighting an enormous steel star from his home on Fox Drive for over 50 years and the star will continue to shine long after his death (in August of this year) thanks to Nathan Patterson and Royal Auto Works. Patterson closed on the late Mr. Rossi’s property on Friday, 12/14, and invited family and friends for a lighting ceremony that honored the previous owner’s memory and marked the beginning of new memories to be made on Fox Drive.

According to Patterson, “We know the Star is important to the community and the community is important to us at Royal Auto Works. We are happy to be able to provide Christmas joy to Front Royal by keeping the tradition alive.”

Watch this Royal Examiner video to see the ceremony and hear Mr. Rossi, in his own words (in a spring interview with Beth Medved Waller who was listing agent for the property), recount the origin of the star and his desire to have the annual tradition live on after his death.

Eligibility requirements: To a student entering a trade school or planning to work in a trade field To apply: Applicant will write a short statement/essay about why they feel they are deserving of a scholarship in memory of Mr. Rossie (and ideally watch this video to learn about him and the star prior to writing the essay). Download information here.

The second scholarship was the Oh Yeah! Keith Sanker Memorial Scholarship. Keith Patrick Sanker passes away August 10, 2016. He was  a 2016 graduate of Skyline High School, where he excelled in athletics and was chosen as team captain for football and wrestling and earned Defensive Player of the Year. Keith also was an active helper and volunteer for community events, especially with the Elks Lodge in Front Royal assisting veterans.

This scholarship is meant to enrich and give a boost to the post graduate who is choosing to enlist in the armed forces, enter a trade school or enter the workforce.
