Dorothy Lou (Thompson) Clay (1939 – 2025)

Dorothy Lou “Dottie” (Thompson) Clay, 86, of Fishers, Ind., formerly of Front Royal, Va., and Dunkirk, Ind., passed away Tuesday, Jan. 14, in Indianapolis, Ind., following an unexpected illness.

Born Jan. 7, 1939, to the late Francis “Pete” and Angie (Ramey) Thompson, she was a 1957 Warren County High School graduate. Clay worked for the United States Department of State following high school.

She moved to Indiana with her then-husband, James F. Clay. The two met in Washington, D.C., where he was a U.S. Navy Ceremonial Guard. In Indiana, she worked in the banking industry for many years and retired as an administrative office manager for Kessler Communication.

She enjoyed sewing, crafts, baking, watching professional basketball, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a longtime member of Delta Theta Tau sorority in Dunkirk, Indiana.

Clay is survived by her three children, Mrs. Kim (Charlie) Sheets, Noblesville, IN; Daphne Jensen, Carmel, Ind.; and Derek (and Angela) Clay, Plainfield, IN. She is also survived by grandchildren Holly Plybon and Abby Kiffmeyer, Indianapolis, Brandon Jensen, Los Angeles, CA; Philip (and Maddie) Clay, Hannah Clay, and Isaiah Clay, Plainfield, IN; and two great-grandchildren, Grace Plybon, Indianapolis, and Max Clay, Plainfield; one nephew, Bobbie Thompson, Jr., and one niece, Teresa Thompson, both of Front Royal.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Robert Thompson, of Front Royal.

Indiana Funeral Care of Indianapolis handled the cremation. A private family service will be scheduled at a later date. Instead of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Parks Foundation of Hendricks County at pfohc.org/give.
