Mark Your Calendar: Warren County Public Schools Community Fun Day Returns August 9

Warren County Public Schools is getting ready to welcome the community for a day of fun, food, and festivities with its annual Community Fun Day. This year’s event is set for Saturday, August 9, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at WCHS Wildcat Stadium, located at 155 Westminster Drive in Front Royal.

Organizers say the event promises to be bigger and better than ever, featuring activities like free student haircuts, a car and truck show, bounce houses, an obstacle course, barrel train rides, a dunk tank, a climbing wall, and even a giant inflatable Human Hungry Hippos game. Principal Ken Knesh explained, “We want to bring something new every year, so each visit feels fresh and exciting.”

Local businesses, craft vendors, and community groups will line the stadium’s track, creating a lively atmosphere where families can enjoy giveaways, meet local business owners, and learn about services in the area. “We want to make it easy for visitors to explore everything,” said Nora McMackin, who is helping coordinate the event. “You can just walk around the track and discover something new at every turn.”

Music, food trucks, and children’s fingerprinting and ID services provided by the Warren County Sheriff’s Office will add to the excitement. Plus, vehicle displays from fire and rescue teams, the Sheriff’s Department, and military branches including the Army, Navy, Air Force, and National Guard will give families a closer look at these important services.

Free haircuts will be offered once again by Blake & Company, who trimmed hair for 70 students last year. “They’ll be set up outside the concession stand where there’s shade and electricity,” said McMackin. “We’re so thankful for their support.”

One special highlight this year will be a dunk tank, courtesy of C &C Frozen Treats, and organizers are still looking for volunteers brave enough to take a turn. Other fun activities include school bus rides to help younger students get comfortable before the first day of school, and a bike and helmet safety program.

Jessica Kelly, a special education teacher at Warren County High School, will also be part of the day, raising funds for her classroom’s community-based instruction program. Her students already volunteer locally, helping businesses with light cleaning, stocking concessions, and other tasks that build real-world job skills. “We want to prepare them for future jobs,” Kelly said. “All we ask in return from businesses is a letter of recommendation if the students do a good job.”

McMackin encouraged businesses and vendors to reserve a spot soon. “If you’re a local business or organization, this is a perfect opportunity to connect with the community,” she said. Vendor spots for nonprofits are free; commercial vendors pay a small fee.

WCHS Principal Knesh shared updates on end-of-year activities, including a senior scholarship night, FFA banquet, and the Spring Chorus Concert. Graduation for Warren County High School seniors will take place on May 15, with Skyline High School following on May 16.

With plenty of activities rain or shine, the team is ready to welcome everyone. “It’s the perfect way to end the summer on a high note,” Knesh said. “We’re excited to see the community come out and celebrate with us.”
