Scythian Sets Sail Again: Local Band Announces Star-Studded Lineup for 2026 String Break Cruise
From their hometown roots in Front Royal to stages across the globe, the band Scythian has spent over two decades electrifying audiences with their genre-blending mix of bluegrass, Americana, and Celtic sound. Now, they’re inviting fans to set sail with them again—this time for the second annual String Break Cruise, an all-inclusive music vacation from January 25–31, 2026.
The cruise, launched in 2024 as a one-of-a-kind floating music festival, will again depart from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, aboard a Princess Cruise ship. With ports of call including Costa Maya, Cozumel, and Belize, the voyage offers not just sunshine and tropical excursions—but a curated lineup of top-tier music that Scythian frontman Dan Fedoryka says “you can’t find anywhere else in one place.”
A Curated Lineup of Musical Heavyweights
This year’s featured artists include:
- The Travelin’ McCourys, Grammy winners and bluegrass royalty known for their high-energy performances and XM Radio presence.
- Gaelic Storm, a Celtic powerhouse currently touring with Zac Brown Band and known for their role in the film Titanic.
- TopHouse, a breakout band in the “mountain pop” genre, is fresh off sold-out shows and a recent performance at the Ryman Auditorium.
- ShadowGrass is a rising star in speed-pick bluegrass circles with ties to fan-favorite Billy Strings.
- JigJam is an award-winning Irish bluegrass fusion group and past recipient of the IBMA Momentum Band of the Year nomination.
- Socks in the Frying Pan is widely respected in the Irish folk scene.
- Armchair Boogie, a high-octane bluegrass jam band with a dance-fueled stage presence reminiscent of Scythian themselves.
- The Elders is a Celtic group from Kansas City, MO., known for its Americana and Celtic rock roots.
Scythian, the cruise’s hosts, will also perform throughout the week. Fresh off announcing a summer opening slot for The Avett Brothers, the band brings veteran status and fresh momentum into this Caribbean adventure.
“Not Just a Festival at Sea—It’s a Community”
What sets String Break Cruise apart, according to Fedoryka, is its intentionally intimate design. Only 950 guests are allowed—out of a ship that can hold over 4,000. This creates a close-knit vibe where fans and musicians can connect naturally.
“There’s no need for VIP tickets or backstage passes,” Fedoryka explained. “Musicians are just part of the community on board. You might see a Grammy winner getting coffee next to you or jumping on stage unannounced with another band. It’s casual, spontaneous, and unlike anything on land.”
Cruise-goers wear exclusive String Break lanyards that open the door to nightly shows, late-night jam sessions, and surprise collaborations. Each band plays three times in different venues, from poolside stages to intimate lounges, giving fans a variety of ways to experience the music.
A True Vacation—Without the Hidden Costs
The cruise is designed to be worry-free and fully inclusive. Every ticket includes a Princess Plus Package, which covers:
- Up to 15 drinks per day (including alcoholic and non-alcoholic options)
- Wi-Fi and all gratuities
- Two fine dining experiences in upscale restaurants
- Unlimited buffet and casual dining access
“There are no surprise fees at the end,” Fedoryka emphasized. “You know exactly what your vacation costs upfront—and it includes music, food, drinks, and all the fun in between.”
For those interested, cabins start at $1,149 per person, and a fully refundable $350 deposit secures a reservation until October 2025. “You can hold your spot now and decide later,” Fedoryka said. “But don’t wait too long—we’ve already sold over half the spots, and the ship itself will sell out.”
Exploring the Caribbean by Day, Dancing by Night
With days spent at tropical ports and nights filled with music, guests can snorkel in Belize’s coral reefs, tour ancient temples, or simply relax aboard a floating city complete with pools, lounges, and entertainment. And once the sun sets, the decks light up with the sounds of fiddles, banjos, and electric energy.
“It’s like a music festival that lets you nap, eat five-star meals, and wake up in a new country,” Fedoryka laughed. “What more could you want in January?”
The cruise has already become a fan favorite in its first year. Guests described it as “the perfect mix of relaxation and exhilaration,” and many have already signed up for the 2026 edition.

With a lineup that blends award-winning music, island adventures, and five-star cruising—all brought to life by a hometown favorite—this isn’t just another music event. It’s a Front Royal-grown vacation with international reach.
“String Break is more than a cruise,” Fedoryka said. “It’s a celebration of the music we love and the people who love it. We’re just lucky enough to sail with them.”
