Warren County School Board Invites Community Input on Search for New Superintendent

Published

on

The Warren County School Board is asking community members to help in the search for the next superintendent of Warren County Public Schools (WCPS). An online survey is now open for residents, families, staff, and students to share what qualities they believe are most important in the district’s future leader.

The survey is available at https://survey.k12insight.com/r/WCPS2025SearchSurvey
and will close on Monday, September 1, 2025, at 11:59 PM ET.

Warren County Public Schools is made up of eleven schools: five elementary schools, two middle schools, two high schools, a technical center, and a non-traditional school. The district serves 5,051 students.

The next superintendent will be expected to lead the district with a clear academic vision, strong communication skills, and a focus on student achievement. The job requires experience as a teacher, principal, and district-level administrator in a similar district. A doctorate or similar degree is preferred, and candidates must be certified—or eligible for certification—as a superintendent in Virginia.

The school board is looking for a leader who can guide WCPS with transparency, professionalism, and attention to detail. The right candidate will be student-focused, data-driven, and ready to build strong relationships throughout the community. Financial management skills, especially in aligning budgets with student needs, are also an important part of the role.

In addition, the superintendent must be committed to hiring and supporting excellent staff across the district. This includes recruiting and retaining strong teachers, helping educators grow in their careers, and setting high expectations for principals and other leaders.

The position also calls for personal integrity and calm leadership in challenging situations. The superintendent must be able to handle pressure while always acting in the best interest of students and the community.

To help with the search, the school board is working with McPherson & Jacobson, L.L.C., a company that specializes in hiring school leaders. The firm will assist in finding and screening candidates over the next few months, with interviews expected to begin this fall..

The board is encouraging everyone in the community—whether they have children in the schools or not—to take part in the survey. The answers will help shape the job description and guide the search for the district’s next leader.
