South Warren Ruritan Club Prepares for Popular Spring Hanging Basket Sale
Rick Logan and Chuck Brome of the South Warren Ruritan Club say a popular local tradition is set to return just in time for Mother’s Day, as the group prepares for its annual hanging basket sale in Front Royal.

The event is scheduled for Saturday, May 9, in the parking lot of Ramsey’s Hardware on Royal Avenue. Organizers say the sale will begin once the flowers arrive that morning, with many regulars encouraged to gather around 8:30 a.m. for the best selection.
The baskets, supplied fresh from a greenhouse near Harrisonburg, have become a popular draw in the community. Logan said customers often return year after year, praising both the quality and appearance of the flowers.
“We’ll have about 80 baskets,” Logan said, noting that both single-variety and mixed arrangements will be available.
Prices are expected to vary depending on size, with smaller baskets starting around $25 and larger arrangements closer to $45. Final pricing will depend in part on delivery costs.
Brome said those estimates are based on previous years, though fuel prices can affect the final cost.
“I think it’s safe to say it’s something between $25 for the smaller baskets, possibly a little more, and $45, possibly a little more for the larger ones,” Brome said.
Beyond brightening porches and gardens, the sale serves a larger purpose. Funds from these sales support a range of community efforts, including donations to local charities and providing meals through programs like Feeding Thy Family.
Logan said the group takes pride in offering high-quality plants to the community.
“These are nicer than what you see at many places,” Logan said, adding that with proper care, the baskets can last throughout the season.
The sale comes on a busy day in Front Royal, with other events planned across the area. Logan and Brome encourage residents to stop by early, as the baskets often sell out quickly.
Volunteers are also welcome to help with setup and learn more about the organization’s community work.
