Regional ‘Walk for Peace’ Rallies Locals to the Cause of Personal and World Peace

Published

The afternoon of Sunday, March 22, 2026, saw a local, regional event inspired by the original “Walk for Peace” that saw a group of Vietnamese Buddhist monks complete a 15-week, 2,300-mile, on-foot walk from Fort Worth, Texas to Washington, D.C., which arrived in the nation’s capital on February 10, 2026, after 108 days on the road.

An online summary of the original walk noted that it “attracted thousands of supporters along its path.” That path of the event was designed to promote “compassion, unity, and inner peace,” culminating with “interfaith events” in the nation’s capital. The site of this Sunday’s event was the Gazebo-based Village Commons Park in Front Royal, Virginia.

The crowd gathers for the 2 p.m. Sunday, March 22, opening of the local ‘Walk for Peace’. And below, a number of those in the crowd head toward the park Pavilion to gather for the launch of the peace walk. Royal Examiner Photos.

And while the crowd that appeared to number in the 70s to 80s didn’t walk 2,300 miles, a good portion of that gathering did march through parts of Front Royal from the park’s Pavilion north along Commerce Avenue to Sixth Street and back down North Royal Avenue to a last left onto East Main Street. While slightly under 108 days and 2300 miles, that March 22nd ‘march’ came on an unusually hot third day of Spring. That heat was reported to have hit the mid-to-upper 80’s during the walking portion of the event.

The event was keynoted by Bentonville-based Buddhist Monk Ado Lama, with assistance from an interpreter, who stressed the effort to bring peace not only to participating individuals but also to citizens around the world confronting threats of war or governmental oppression. Our information is that Monk Ado Lama and some of his associates are affiliated with the non-profit Dzogchen Foundation in the Bentonville area.

The event here was co-sponsored by locals Laura Ruby and Eka Kapiotis, in a partnership grown out of Ruby Yoga on East Main Street, not far up the street from the Gazebo and Village Commons Park.

It has been noted that the original “Walk for Peace” Monks were accompanied by a dog named Aloka, “who became a symbolic figure throughout the journey.”

And two dogs at Sunday’s Peace event in Front Royal sported signs acknowledging Aloka’s inspiration and their participation as “Puppies for Peace”.

Dog on left sports an ‘Aloka is my Hero’ tribute to the dog that walked with the original 2,300 mile Walk for Peace. Dog pal to right’s sign said ‘Puppies for Peace’.

We gathered this information on the original “Walk for Peace”, and by acknowledgment of its inspiration, the related motivation of all local or regional versions to be undertaken in the future (is “undertaken” a poor choice of words here?).

Below are details of the original “Walk for Peace” found online:

Key Details of the 2025-2026 Walk for Peace:

Mission: The walk, initiated by monks from the Huong Dao Vipassana Bhavana Center, aimed to cultivate peace, love, kindness, and compassion in a divided nation. It was framed as a spiritual offering rather than a political protest.

The Journey: Beginning in late October 2025, over a dozen monks covered over 2,300 miles. Despite an early accident in Texas injuring two monks, they continued, with some parts of the trip walked barefoot.

Public Reception: The walk gained significant attention on social media and drew large crowds in several states. Supporters provided food, water, and encouragement along the route.

Royal Examiner acknowledges that a number of local businesses were cited as providing assistance or accessory materials, including food, to the event in Front Royal.

Conclusion: The walk concluded in Washington, D.C., in early February 2026, with a “Sacred Stop” at the Washington National Cathedral, bringing together various faith leaders to emphasize unity.

Upcoming Activity: In April and May 2026, members of the original group are traveling to Sri Lanka to continue the mission with a 4-day walk.

Are you ready to walk for peace? Youthful ‘Walk for Peace’ attendees gathered at the Gazebo, ready to go if parents were, in the 80-to-88 degree early Spring heat.

Commercial for Peace:

This peaceful initiative aimed to provide a “commercial for peace,” inspiring people to take mindful steps towards a more compassionate world, echoing efforts like the historic 1969 “bed-in” by John Lennon and Yoko Ono, which was also described as a “commercial for peace”.
