Annual Day of Giving Honors the Library’s Rich History and Supports Future Growth

February is National Library Lovers’ Month, and Samuels Public Library is celebrating in a big way! The library’s 6th Annual Day of Giving will take place on Thursday, February 27. Two generous donors will match donations throughout the month of February—up to $6,500.

Thanks to this matching campaign, every donation, no matter the size, will be doubled, helping the library continue to improve its services and remain a hub for learning, connection, and creativity in the community.

This year’s Day of Giving is themed “Silver Tea,” inspired by a historical event dating back to February 22, 1924, when the “Ladies of the Library” gathered for a Silver Tea to revitalize the local library, then known as the Front Royal Library Society. The annual tradition invited citizens to bring a book to add to the library’s collection and show their support. Samuels Public Library honors that legacy while encouraging the community to do the same.

“Our Day of Giving is a chance to honor the legacies of these women and encourage our community to support Samuels Library,” said Melody Hotek, President of the Samuels Public Library Board of Trustees. “It is through this support that Samuels has fulfilled their vision to become the outstanding center of Warren County and the 2024 Library of the Year. We will have a special display highlighting interesting historical facts about the library, so be sure to stop by and check it out.”

Erin Rooney, Director of Samuels Public Library, emphasized the importance of donations in improving the library. “National Library Lovers’ Month is a fun way to support your local library! Our amazing team strives to provide free and easy access to a wide range of information and ideas for Front Royal and Warren County residents. This is a wonderful opportunity to enhance and expand on these services to support our entire community better.”

Previous Day of Giving donations have made significant improvements possible, including new carpet in the adult section and updated flooring in the public restrooms. Funds from this year’s campaign will be used to continue offering high-quality programming and services.

Much of the event’s success is driven by generous matching donors. “We are beyond grateful to our current anonymous donors for recognizing the importance of the library’s services with their generous Day of Giving Matching Grant,” said Rooney. “Every dollar donated in February will go twice as far in bringing new services and exciting improvements to the library.”

Community members can make their donation online anytime through the end of February. Donations will be matched dollar-for-dollar, doubling the impact on the library’s future.
