Wells Family Yard Sale Raises $20,000+ Toward Adoption Dream

Published

For Tommy and Grace Wells of Warren County, adoption has always been part of their family plan. From the early days of their relationship, they knew one day they would open their home to a child in need. That long-held dream became a real step forward last September when Grace returned from a walk and shared something she believed came from above—she felt God telling her it was time.

Tommy and Grace Wells and their daughter Malia anticipate an addition to their family.

That moment set the Wells family on a path filled with purpose but also with significant financial hurdles. The cost of domestic adoption can run as high as $50,000. While their hearts were ready, they knew they’d need help to reach the finish line. What happened next is a testament to both faith and the power of community.

Over Memorial Day weekend, the Wells family, along with a wide circle of friends and supporters, organized a massive adoption fundraiser yard sale at their home on Morgan Ford Road. The effort was spearheaded by Grace and two close friends, and it quickly became much more than just a sidewalk sale. It turned into a community movement.

“Everything here on the lawn today, I would say probably about ninety-nine percent of it is not our stuff,” Tommy Wells said. “It’s from the local community, and all the proceeds for everything is going towards the adoption.”

From donated furniture and household goods to baked goods, lemonade, and handcrafted items, nearly every item was given by someone hoping to help the Wells family reach their goal. There were also kid-friendly activities like face painting, a bounce house, and treats provided by Chik-fil-A of Warrenton—all making the event a family-friendly day with a powerful mission.

The community comes together to raise money for the Wells family adoption.

And the results were nothing short of remarkable. Before the yard sale, the Wells had raised around $7,000. But by the end of Saturday, May 24, they had soared to $17,000. By Sunday evening, with sales still ongoing, the total had surpassed $20,000.

“Unbelievable,” Tommy said, reflecting on the surge in support. “We raised over $10,000 in one day.”

Tommy and Grace are no strangers to opening their hearts and home. In addition to raising their 6-year-old daughter Malia, they have taken on legal guardianship of two of Tommy’s younger siblings. A third sibling, who recently turned 21, has since moved out. Family, in every sense of the word, is at the core of their lives.

This upcoming adoption will bring another child into their household—a child they haven’t yet met.  But what is certain is the love, commitment, and faith the Wells family is ready to offer.

For those who couldn’t attend the yard sale but still want to contribute to their adoption journey, donations can be made through their GiveSendGo page: https://www.givesendgo.com/wellsadoptionfund.

The Wells family isn’t just working toward an adoption—they’re building a future rooted in compassion, generosity, and belief. As their fundraiser shows, they’re not doing it alone.
