Warren County Circuit Court Receives Grant to Safeguard Historic Records

Published

on

The Warren County Circuit Court has received a $35,156 grant from the Library of Virginia’s Circuit Court Records Preservation (CCRP) program. The funds will enable Clerk Angie Moore and her team to preserve crucial historical documents stored in her office, including Deed Book Z (1893-1895) and Marriage Licenses & Bonds (dating back to 1852). As part of this preservation effort, these documents will also be digitized, making them accessible to the public online.

The preservation of these records is important to Moore, who highlighted the value of maintaining these historical artifacts. “These records are the history of our county! We have an obligation to ensure they are available for future generations,” she said.

Established in 1990, the CCRP has played a key role in helping Virginia’s circuit courts preserve their records. The program has awarded over 2,000 grants, totaling more than $35 million, including $3.2 million this year alone to support preservation efforts across 101 localities. Funded by a small portion of the recordation fee collected in clerks’ offices statewide, the CCRP collaborates with the Virginia Court Clerks Association (VCCA) to protect historical documents stored in the state’s 120 circuit courts and the Library of Virginia.
