Children Activities by Samuels Public Library for the Month of October

These are the events being presented by the Youth Services Department at Samuels Public Library during the month of October 2024. More information about Samuels Library and the programs and services available can be found at www.samuelslibrary.net or by calling (540) 635-3153.


Wednesday & Thursday, October 2 & 3

  • 10:15AM – Toddler Story Time.  Bring your toddler to a potpourri of simple stories, fun songs, and a cute craft on Owls. Siblings welcome. Registration is required.
  • 11:00AM – Preschool Story Time.  Come in for an enjoyable hour filled with Owl stories, exciting sing-alongs, finger plays, and a nifty craft. Registration is required.

Friday, October 4

  • 10:30 AM – Dancing Littles.  For ages 3-5, Mommy & Me style.  Come listen to some stories and learn about dance, as you practice your moves with fun and games!  Registration is required.

Saturday, October 5

  • 11:00 AM – Story Walk at Eastham Park.  Come join us and the Front Royal-Warren County Anti-Litter Council as we read the new story, The Messy Book by Maudie Powell-Tuck, learn about littering, and do an activity.

Monday, October 7

  • 10:00 AM – Holiday Writing Contest begins for grades K-12, as well as a special needs category!  Write a story or poem about a winter holiday and turn in with an entry form, found at children’s reference desk.  Or draw a picture of a winter holiday or winter scene, to be used as illustrations on cover of printed magazine. All entries are due by the close of day on November 1st, to be judged by a panel the following week. Let your creativity flow!
  • 11:00 AM – Music & Movement for Babies & Toddlers. Join our relaxed and joyful time with your little ones as we listen to music while learning some basic movements and multisensory activities designed to delight your baby. Registration is required.

Tuesday, October 8

  • 4:00 PM – Science Scouts. For ages 6-11.  Children will investigate a different STEM-related topic bi-weekly. This week’s theme is Rock Candy. Registration is required.

Wednesday & Thursday, October 9 & 10

  • 10:15AM – Toddler Story Time.  Bring your toddler to a potpourri of simple stories, fun songs, and a cute craft on Spiders. Siblings welcome. Registration is required.
  • 11:00AM – Preschool Story Time.  Come in for an enjoyable hour filled with Spider stories, exciting sing-alongs, finger plays, and a nifty craft. Registration is required.

Monday, October 14

  • 11:00 AM – Music & Movement for Babies & Toddlers. Join our relaxed and joyful time with your little ones as we listen to music while learning some basic movements and multisensory activities designed to delight your baby. Registration is required.

Tuesday, October 15

  • 10:30 AM – Homeschool Hub. For ages 6-11. Children will work together as they go through the scientific method, gathering data, and drawing conclusions.   The topic this week is Apple Mummification. Registration is required.

Monday, October 21

  • 11:00 AM – Music & Movement for Babies & Toddlers. Join our relaxed and joyful time with your little ones as we listen to music while learning some basic movements and multisensory activities designed to delight your baby. Registration is required.

Tuesday, October 22

  • 11:00 AM – Preschool Story Time.  Read With the Sheriff! (Wednesday only) This week we will have a special guest from the Sheriff’s office!  Come in for an enjoyable hour filled with Pumpkin stories, exciting sing-alongs, finger plays, and a nifty craft! Registration is required.

Wednesday, October 23

  • 6:00 PM – Teens Connect.  For ages 12-18.  Join Scott Bradley Hesson as he talks about his book, There Might Be Ghosts Inside Those Hills, based on the caverns in the Shenandoah Valley.   Go on a tour outside the library to “hunt” for ghosts with phone apps. Registration is required.

Saturday, October 26

  • 11:30 AM – It’s a Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown.  For all ages.  Presented by Hard Act to Follow Special Needs Theater Troupe. Come enjoy the show!

Monday, October 28

  • 11:00 AM – Music & Movement for Babies & Toddlers. Join our relaxed and joyful time with your little ones as we listen to music while learning some basic movements and multisensory activities designed to delight your baby. Registration is required.
