Eugene Tewalt on the ballot for Town Mayor in upcoming special election

Town Council member and former Mayor Eugene Tewalt will be on the special election ballot November 5th 2019.

This election is an interim election, to replace Matthew Tederick after the seat was vacated during Hollis Tharpe’s solicitation case. The term for this election will be just one year, with an additional election held in 2020 for a two-year term.

Eugene R. Tewalt was elected to the Front Royal Town Council July 1, 2012. He previously served on the Town Council from 2000 – 2004, 2006 – 2008 and as the Mayor of Front Royal from 2008 – 2010.

Tewalt has lived in Front Royal since 1974. He retired from the Town of Front Royal after 25 years of serving as The Director of Public Works/Engineer. He also worked for the Virginia Department Transportation as a Surveyor.

He has a degree in Civil Engineering and a Certificate in Highway Engineering. Mr. Tewalt has served on the Virginia Department of Transportation Bridge Task Force Team and has been a member of the Front Royal Rotary Club for 25 years. He and wife are members of the Front Royal Church of Christ. Councilman Tewalt is an abet reader and enjoys playing golf.

Tewalt and his wife Juanita of 55 years, reside at on Wine Street and have two children (Angela and Tim) and three grandsons.

When asked his aims and goals for Mayor, Tewalt said that he would, “Be accessible to hear your needs at all times since I am retired”, would focus on, “Controlled growth and getting rid of traffic congestion” as well as, “improving tourism and keeping the downtown beautiful”.

The Mayoral candidate added that he wants to, “Heal the wounds that were created by the EDA” and “Improve Town and County relations.”
