Shirley Jean Pounds (1942 – 2024)
Shirley Jean Pounds, 82, of Alexandria, Virginia, passed away on Friday, December 06, 2024.

Shirley (AKA Jeanne) was born on July 07, 1942, in Takoma Park, Maryland. After graduating from High School in 1960, she started working in the private sector. She then worked for the Environmental Protection Agency before moving to her budget analyst position for the U.S. Treasury Department of the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, where she retired in 2004.
Shirley was a beacon of kindness and love who will forever reside in our hearts. She dedicated her life to God and her children. Always there with warmth, love, strength, and generosity. We will always continue to be inspired by the way she led by example. She truly knew that it was more blessed to give than receive. “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” Acts 20:35
Along with God and her children, Shirley loved to travel the world with her Red Hat family, whom she absolutely adored. She was very involved with her community through her volunteer work with her church—Cranford United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women—for 30 years, The Women of the Moose—for 45 years (Woodbridge 583), and Rising Hope—for 16 years under Pastor Cary serving the homeless and the needy.
She is survived by her son, Wayne Hunter, of Alexandria, VA., daughters Terri Siever (Meade) of Mineral, VA., and Melanie Stull (Alan) of Front Royal, VA., her brother Harold Neff of Shelbiana, KY., nieces, Nephews, and her cat Bindi. She is preceded in death by her mother, Hilda Sine, her sister, Barbara Sickman (Bebe), and her Nephew, Randy Neff. As Mom was a private person, she requested no public service.
Instead of flowers, donations can be made in her honor to the American Cancer Society at https://donate.cancer.org/ or the Alzheimer’s Association at https://act.alz.org. “I can do all things through Christ which strengthen me.” Philippians 4:13
