Front Royal Water Report Shows System Met All Federal Standards in 2025

The Town of Front Royal says its drinking water met all state and federal safety standards during 2025, according to the town’s newly released Annual Water Quality Report.

The report, issued by the Town of Front Royal Department of Public Works, outlines testing results collected between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, 2025, and states the town remained in full compliance with all drinking water regulations.

Town officials said the community’s water comes from three surface water sources — the South Fork of the Shenandoah River, Happy Creek, and Sloan Creek — before being treated at the town’s water treatment facility.

“Our compliance with all state and federal drinking water laws remains exemplary,” the report states. “As always, we are committed to delivering the best quality drinking water to you.”

According to the report, treatment includes filtration, UV disinfection, chlorination, and corrosion control before water is distributed to homes and businesses. Operators conduct approximately 100 tests daily to monitor water quality.

The report notes that no maximum contaminant level violations occurred during 2025.

Among the findings, Front Royal reported:

  • No violations for bacteria, turbidity, radioactive contaminants, or disinfectant byproducts.
  • One sample tested positive for E. coli, but follow-up testing did not confirm contamination, indicating no violation occurred.
  • Lead and copper testing remained below federal action levels.

The report also includes updated information regarding lead service line inventories required under federal regulations. Town officials said Front Royal completed its initial inventory submission to the state in October 2024 and updated it again in December 2025.

The Virginia Department of Health previously completed source water assessments for Front Royal’s water system and found the town’s surface water sources could be susceptible to contamination due to surrounding land use and environmental conditions.

Copies of the full water quality report are available from the Town of Front Royal Water Treatment Plant by calling 540-636-7474 or emailing the Water Treatment Plant Manager, Matthew McDunn, at mmcdunn@frontroyalva.com.
