Navigating Intersections: Understanding Right of Way

Intersections are often hotspots for traffic confusion and potential accidents. Knowing who has priority at these junctions is essential for safe and efficient driving. Here’s a guide to help you understand the right of way at intersections, making your journey smoother and safer.

1. Pedestrians First: Always yield to pedestrians who are already on the road or about to cross. Their safety is paramount, and they have the right of way.

2. Respect the Intersection: If a cyclist or vehicle is already in the intersection or has the right of way, they take precedence. This is especially important when you’re turning left, and the green light is steady (without a flashing arrow). Oncoming traffic has priority in this scenario.

3. Four-Way Stops: These can be tricky. The rule is simple: the first vehicle to reach the intersection and come to a complete stop goes first. This applies to all road users, including motorcyclists and cyclists. If two vehicles arrive simultaneously, the one on the right goes first.
