Grandmaster Kwon Gives Back: Free Martial Arts Training for Community Heroes

Published

on

After years of shaping lives through martial arts in Front Royal, Grandmaster Kwon is entering a new chapter—one marked by gratitude, service, and a deep commitment to those who protect and serve our community. As he prepares to close his long-standing martial arts school in town, Kwon is shifting his focus to a new mission: offering free martial arts training to local heroes and their families.

Twice a month, on the second and fourth Tuesday, Grandmaster Kwon will hold classes at the Front Royal Volunteer Fire Department, located at 221 N. Commerce Avenue. These sessions, held on the second floor of the building, are open to military personnel, police officers, sheriff’s department staff, firefighters, and their immediate family members. Current students of Grandmaster Kwon are also welcome to participate.

Youth classes are scheduled from 6 to 7 p.m., followed by adult sessions from 7 to 8 p.m.

“This is my way of saying thank you,” Kwon said. “Martial arts has given me so much in life. Now, I want to give something back to those who give so much to our community.”

Well-known in the region not just for his martial arts expertise but for his dedication to mentoring young people, Kwon has built a reputation for blending physical training with life lessons in discipline, respect, and personal growth. His new initiative continues that approach. The free classes will focus on self-defense, physical conditioning, and the core principles of martial arts that go beyond the mat—mental focus, emotional control, and mutual respect.

For Kwon, this isn’t retirement—it’s redirection. Though his Front Royal school is closing, he’s not stepping away from teaching. Instead, he’s refocusing his efforts on those he feels deserve it most. The decision is both personal and purposeful.

“These are the people who run toward danger, who work long nights, and who carry the weight of our safety on their shoulders,” Kwon said. “If I can help even a few of them feel stronger, more confident, or more connected to their families through martial arts, then it’s worth every minute.”

The program is designed not just to build physical strength but also to bring families together and offer a healthy outlet for stress and growth. Training alongside loved ones offers a rare opportunity for bonding, especially for those whose daily routines are filled with high-stress and high-stakes responsibilities.

Current students are excited to continue learning from Grandmaster Kwon, even in this new format.“He’s not just a teacher—a mentor,” said a longtime student. “What he teaches stays with you, on and off the mat.”

Anyone interested in the program is encouraged to contact Pearl at 540-849-7524 or Andrew at 540-660-0246 for more information.

Whether you wear a uniform or carry a lifetime of martial arts memories, Grandmaster Kwon invites you to join him in this new venture that promises strength, service, and shared growth.
