In a heartfelt demonstration of community and solidarity, Winchester, VA, is gearing up for the “Coldest Night of the Year” fundraiser walk, set to take place on Saturday, February 24, 2024. This event, marking its second annual occurrence in Winchester, stands as part of a national initiative aimed at fighting homelessness across the U.S. and Canada. By participating, Winchester joins a chorus of cities dedicated to making a tangible difference.

The Winchester Area Temporary Transitional Shelter (WATTS) is at the forefront of this inspiring event, with a mission to eradicate homelessness in Winchester, Frederick, and Clarke Counties, one individual at a time. The fundraiser walk offers a choice between a 2K and a 5K route, both winding through the scenic downtown Winchester. The 5K extends the journey, taking participants through the Museum of the Shenandoah Valley trails and past the crucial WATTS’ evening bus pickup location.

Virginia’s Lieutenant Governor, Winsome Earle-Sears.

The event promises not only a physical walk but a journey of hope. With check-in commencing at 4:00 pm at Braddock Street UMC, located at 115 Wolfe Street, attendees will be treated to motivational send-off remarks by Virginia’s Lieutenant Governor, Winsome Earle-Sears. The walk is slated to start at 5:00 pm, inviting everyone to step forward in unity. Upon completion, participants will be welcomed back with a warm soup kitchen, symbolizing the community’s embrace and support.

This meaningful event is open to all who wish to contribute to a cause that touches the lives of many. Registration is entirely free and can be done online, making it accessible for anyone eager to make a difference. Whether by walking, donating, or volunteering, the “Coldest Night of the Year” walk offers a unique opportunity to stand against homelessness, highlighting the power of community in fostering change.
