Royal Shine Builds on Detailing Legacy With New Name, Same Focus on Quality
A familiar auto detailing business in Front Royal has a new name and new ownership, but its owners say the focus remains the same: taking care of vehicles with a personal touch and attention to detail.
Royal Shine, located at 1852 N. Royal Avenue, is operated by Chris Hale with help from his father, Jim Hale. The business continues the work of Detailer Alex, whose owner, Alex Kravchenko, recently sold the operation before moving to Florida.
“Here at Royal Shine, we are a professional auto detailing studio,” Chris Hale said. “We take your car, no matter the condition, and we perfect it inside and out. We make it look like it was brand new, just rolled off the factory line.”
For Hale, taking over the business was a natural next step. He worked under Kravchenko for about two and a half years, learning the trade and the attention to detail that became a hallmark of the business.
“He was always driven towards perfection, and that’s what we strive for here,” Hale said.
When Kravchenko decided to sell, he approached Jim Hale’s wife, Dana Hale of Lemon and Hale, who had previously done legal work for him. The Hale family eventually decided to purchase the operation.
“We’re just picking up where Alex left off,” Jim Hale said, adding that Kravchenko had invested heavily in creating a professional detailing facility and had made an impression on Front Royal’s business community.
That investment is evident inside the shop. Vehicles are detailed indoors in a climate-controlled environment, allowing the crew to work regardless of heat, cold, or bad weather. Specialized LED lighting helps reveal scratches, dents, and other imperfections that could otherwise be difficult to spot.
During a recent visit, a 1970 Plymouth Duster sat inside the shop after being brought in on a rollback. Its owner is preparing to restore the vehicle and brought it to Royal Shine for a thorough cleaning first.
Chris Hale said the Duster required about four hand washes, roughly four hours of work on the engine bay, and another three hours cleaning the interior.
The shop handles everything from interior and exterior detailing to polishing, waxing, and ceramic coatings. Hale said hand detailing offers a different level of care than an automated car wash.
“We professionally hand wash this car so we don’t scratch it up, scuff it up or rough it up,” he said.
Ceramic coatings are another growing part of the business. Hale described the coating as an added protective layer for a vehicle’s paint, plastics and wheels, helping protect surfaces from road dirt, brake dust and other contaminants.
That protection can be particularly useful as winter approaches and vehicles are exposed to snow, ice and road salt.
Royal Shine plans to expand its services in the coming months. Hale said the shop expects to offer bed-lining services for truck beds, vehicle surfaces and undercoating. The business also plans to offer discounted ceramic coatings as winter approaches.
Future plans include learning to install paint protection film (PPF) and automotive window tinting.
The business is also looking beyond the shop and toward greater involvement in the community.
Royal Shine plans to sponsor the car show connected with Front Royal’s Festival of Leaves. Hale is inviting owners of classic cars and trucks, motorcycles and other interesting vehicles to contact him about participating.
Jim Hale said the area’s strong interest in automobiles has been one of the things the family has noticed since moving to Front Royal.
“What we’ve learned since moving to Front Royal is that this is really a car town,” he said. “It’s amazing when you go to the car shows around here and see what people do with their cars, especially their old cars.”
The Hales also hope Royal Shine becomes more than simply a place where customers drop off their vehicles.
“We love living here, and we love everything about this town,” Jim Hale said. “It’s a privilege to be a part of Front Royal.”
Royal Shine is open daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. The shop is at 1852 N. Royal Avenue, near Wayne’s Auto Repair and beyond the railroad underpass.
