One-Time Events

Taste For Books Annual Fundraiser
Saturday, April 27th at 6:00 PM

In person. Samuels Public Library is holding its 11th A Taste For Books fundraiser! This lively event is known as Warren County’s best party of the year. It offers a one-of-a-kind opportunity to advertise your business or nonprofit, reach out to new audiences, and connect with friends and colleagues while giving back to the entire community by supporting the library. Each year has a theme, and this year, prepare for a full-out British Invasion as we magically transform Samuels Library into reflections of our royal neighbors across the pond. Come with us as we explore the rich literature, the cultural legends, and the unforgettable lyrical contributions of the United Kingdom. This evening event allows attendees to enjoy delicious food and drink, bid on brilliant silent auction items, and play games for a chance at prizes. Visit tasteforbooks.net for more information and tickets.

Sunset and Night Photography

Saturday, April 6th from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM

In person. This session will meet at Cullers Overlook in the Shenandoah River State Park. We will start by capturing the sunset and then discuss the preparation steps for taking photos at night. We need the weather to cooperate and then wait for the skies to light up with stars. Bring a snack and layers if the night is chilly. A wide angle lens, tripod, and shutter release cable is helpful. The newer generations of smart phones can be great for sunset and low light photography. Note: State Park parking fees rules apply for attending this program. The Library has a limited number of LVA state park bags with passes. Availability is not guaranteed.

Eclipse Watch Party

Monday, April 8th from 1:45 PM to 3:30 PM

In person. On April 8, 2024, a total solar eclipse will cross North America. This is the last time to see a solar eclipse for 20 years. Join us at the library to safely witness this rare total solar eclipse. Viewing glasses will be available. We will have solar eclipse-inspired goodies. During the event, we will have stones to paint with an image of the eclipse.  The eclipse will begin at 2:02 PM with the maximum coverage at 3:18 PM – so plan to arrive by 1:45 PM to enjoy a snack, get your glasses, and be ready. Bring a lawn chair or blanket to get comfortable.

Photography and Beyond: Bluebells and Wildflowers

Saturday, April 13th from 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM

In person. Wildflowers, especially bluebells, abound and delight. We will meet at the Shenandoah River State Park visitor center to review tips for photographing flowers. Then we will explore the boardwalk trail near the Right Campground. Be prepared to encounter muddy areas!  After our hands-on session, those who have additional time can help photograph and enjoy the Park’s Bluebell Festival. There will be food trucks, live music, craft vendors, nature walks, ranger programs, and more! The Bluebell Festival is family friendly and perfect for all ages. You don’t want to miss this!  All types of cameras from smart phones to professional cameras and levels of photographers are welcomed. Note: State Park parking fees rules apply for attending this program. The Library has a limited number of LVA state park bags with passes. Availability is not guaranteed.
