Winchester, VA – September 18, 2017 – Wear your seersucker or white summer weight suit after Labor Day and tell them their rules do not apply to you, is a fundraiser for The Laurel Center being hosted by Attorney Chris Collins of Buchbauer & McGuire, P.C at Winchester Brew Works on Wednesday, September 20th from 4:30 pm until 7:30 pm. There is no fee to attend but there will be opportunities to help raise funds for the Center.

“The idea for this came to members of the local bar while in court and seeing our fellow attorneys wearing their seersucker suits, a common uniform for southern attorneys, and we thought we could turn that into a fun fundraiser.” Collins said as to the origin of the event. “It will give everyone an opportunity to wear their suits one more time and to help a very important community services organization.”

As to why the Laurel Center, Collins said, “They work hard in our community and we see their good works in the Courthouse every day and we know they need our support.”  Collins went on to say that the money will be utilized for their general fund. “They have been working on their new location, which has become a necessity due to the increase need for services and housing for abused families, but they need funds to keep the doors they currently have open as well.”

Attendees can expect to find locally brewed beer and drink specials as well as light finger foods. Winchester Brew Works is a woman owned business located at 320 North Cameron Street in Winchester.

The Laurel Center provides emergency shelter and trauma informed education and support services to victims of domestic and sexual abuse in the City of Winchester, Frederick, Clarke and Warren Counties. “We do not do our work alone in this community” stated Faith Power, Executive Director for The Laurel Center. “We work closely with the legal and law enforcement communities to support victims of domestic and sexual violence, without whom it would be impossible to achieve our mission.” The Laurel Center is in the process of building new Emergency shelter and outreach center, which is on schedule to be completed by the end of November. “We are so grateful that Chris and Heather see the need and are willing to take time out of their very busy schedules to help The Laurel Center.”

The Laurel Center Intervention for Domestic and Sexual Violence empowers victims of domestic and sexual violence by providing emergency housing, advocacy, support services and education. We reach out to our community through education and awareness programs. For more information, contact 540-667-6160.
