In a notable event at the Virginia Capitol in Richmond, Virginia, Delegate David A. Reid received high honors for his unwavering support of the state’s National Guard. During a Virginia General Assembly Military and Veterans Caucus meeting on March 6, 2024, the Virginia National Guard Association (VNGA) awarded Reid the prestigious Brig. Gen. Edward Hudgins Award for legislative excellence.

Virginia Delegate David A. Reid (D-VA-28) is presented the Brig. Gen. Edward Hudgins Award for legislative excellence today by the Virginia National Guard Association, March 6, 2024, during the Virginia General Assembly Military and Veterans Caucus meeting held at the Virginia Capitol in Richmond, Va. Maj. Gen. James W. Ring, the Adjutant General of Virginia, presented the award on behalf of the association.

The award celebrates Reid’s significant contributions toward bolstering the Virginia National Guard, highlighting his commitment to providing the necessary resources and support for Virginia’s servicemen and women. His work has been instrumental in advancing the welfare of veterans within the state, underscored by his role in enacting a strategic plan to make Virginia the most veteran-friendly state in the nation, a vision set forth by House Bill 1759.

Chris Chon, President of the VNGA, praised Reid’s leadership and dedication. “His leadership and dedication to this cause were truly exemplary, and we are honored to recognize his outstanding contributions with this well-deserved award,” Chon remarked. He further emphasized the importance of having leaders like Reid, especially during times of uncertainty, acknowledging his efforts in championing the cause of military personnel and their families.

The Brig. Gen. Edward Hudgins Award, established in 2020, honors individuals who have demonstrated exceptional service to the Virginia National Guard or the VNGA. It commemorates Brig. Gen. Edward M. Hudgins was a distinguished officer who held several high-profile positions during and after World War II and later served in the General Assembly. Past recipients of the award include notable figures such as former State Senator Monty Mason and Delegates Robert “Bobby” Orrock and Scott A. Wyatt.

The award, a wooden plaque bearing the VNGA logo and an inscription recognizing the recipient’s exceptional support of the Virginia National Guard, symbolizes the gratitude and respect of the Guard and the association for the honorees’ dedication and service.
