Children Activities by Samuels Public Library for the Month of August

These are the events being presented by the Youth Services Department at Samuels Public Library during the month of August 2025.  More information about Samuels Library and the programs and services available can be found at www.samuelslibrary.net or by calling (540) 635-3153.


Saturday, August 2

  • 2:00 PM – Mr. Mike’s Great Big Balloon Show.  For the family.  Join us for the last day of summer reading, as Mr. Mike entertains us with twisted balloons and magic.

Saturday, August 2

  • This is the last day of summer reading.  Finish that book and come in to log and get your last prize of the summer!

Wednesday & Thursday, August 6 & 7

  • 10:15AM – Toddler Story Time. 
  • 11:00AM – Preschool Story Time.

Come in for an enjoyable hour filled with Watermelon stories, exciting sing-alongs, finger plays, and a nifty craft. Registration is required.  There will be a special guest from the Elks at all story times.  Come thank them for sponsoring our summer reading program events and prizes!

Friday, August 8

  • 10:00 AM – Wild About Wind: Toddlers Trails.  For ages 2-5, with a parent.  Join us and Warren County Parks & Rec at Burrell Brooks Jr. Park (next to the library) for stories about wind, trail walking to gather natural items, and then make a wind chime. Registration is required.

Saturday, August 9

  • 2:30PM – Teen Chess. For ages 11-18.  Join us for some games of chess, whether you want to learn the game or practice your skills. Registration is required.

Monday, August 11

  • 10:15 AM – Music & Movement for Babies (ages 0-23 months).
  • 11:15 AM – Music & Movement for Toddlers & Preschoolers (ages 2-5). 

Join our fun and joyful time with your little ones as we listen to music while learning some basic movements and multisensory activities designed to delight your baby or toddler. Registration is required.

Tuesday, August 12

  • 10:30 AM – Elephant Toothpaste: Homeschool Hub. For ages 6-11.  Come hear elephant stories and learn about chemical reactions, as we make “elephant toothpaste”.  Registration is required.

Monday, August 18

  • 10:15 AM – Music & Movement for Babies (ages 0-23 months).
  • 11:15 AM – Music & Movement for Toddlers (ages 2-5). 

Join our fun and joyful time with your little ones as we listen to music while learning some basic movements and multisensory activities designed to delight your baby or toddler. Registration is required.

Tuesday, August 19

  • 4:00 PM – Elephant Toothpaste: Mix it Up.  For ages 6-11.  Come hear elephant stories and watch as we make “elephant toothpaste”.  Registration is required.

Wednesday & Thursday, August 20 & 21

  • 10:15AM – Toddler Story Time.
  • 11:00AM – Preschool Story Time. 

Come in for an enjoyable hour filled with Cookie stories, exciting sing-alongs, finger plays, and a nifty craft. Registration is required.

Saturday, August 23

2:30 PM – Movie: Teens Connect.  For ages 13-18.  Come spend a relaxing afternoon with other teens, watching a movie. Weathering With You is a Japanese, Miyazaki anime movie. Popcorn and drinks provided. Registration is required.

Monday, August 25

  • 10:15 AM – Music & Movement for Babies (ages 0-23 months).
  • 11:15 AM – Music & Movement for Toddlers (ages 2-5).

Tuesday, August 26

  • 10:30 AM – Water Balloon Density: Homeschool Hub.  For ages 6-11.  Learn what density is and test what liquids are in the balloons.  You MAY get wet! Registration is required.

Wednesday, August 27 & 28

  • 10:15AM – Toddler Story Time. 
  • 11:00AM – Read with the Sheriff Preschool Story Time (Wednesday only)

Come in for an enjoyable hour filled with Cats & Dogs stories, exciting sing-alongs, finger plays, and a nifty craft. Registration is required.
