Holiday Happenings at Samuels Public Library
Samuels Public Library is the heart of the community this December, offering a host of engaging activities for all ages. From children’s crafts to science programs, festive storytimes, and a special holiday open house, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
Rachel Roman, representing the adult programs, highlighted ongoing clubs such as the Embroidery Club (Thursdays at 10 a.m.), What the Tech (Tuesdays at 2 p.m.), and the Genealogy Club meeting on December 11. The big draw this month is the combined book club event: a holiday celebration featuring a potluck and a lively discussion of holiday-themed books.
In the Children’s Department, Michal Ashby detailed the excitement for young library visitors, including the beloved Music and Movement sessions and preschool storytime with crafts. Science fans will love Science Scouts and the Homeschool Hub, offering interactive STEM projects guided by a former science teacher. “These programs not only spark curiosity but also foster collaboration among kids,” Ashby said.
A standout event this month is the Holiday Open House on Saturday, December 14th. The day kicks off with free family Christmas portraits and continues with activities like a Christmas craft session featuring kits from Lowe’s, storytime with Santa, and wreath-making workshops for older participants. Performances by the Blue Ridge Singers and plenty of festive decorations promise to make the library a magical place.
Beyond these events, the library’s facilities, including its studio and sound booth, are open for reservations. The space is ideal for projects like podcast recording, with walk-in hours every Thursday from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
The library will be closed on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve, and New Year’s Day, but staff are already preparing for the upcoming Winter Reading Club in January and an even bigger summer program.
