E. Wilson Morrison Elementary School Holds 5th Annual Early Act Memorial Day Event Honoring America’s Military Fallen
E. Wilson Morrison Elementary School, led by its student Early Act Club under the directorship of Faculty Advisors Floy Bunning and Millicent “Millie” Adams, sponsorship of the Rotary Club of Warren County, and musical accompaniment by the school’s Bobcat Chorus under the directorship of Thomas Hasset, held its 5th annual Memorial Day preview event the afternoon of Thursday, May 14, 2026.
Of the now annual Memorial Day remembrance event organizer and Warren County Rotary Club liaison, Michael Williams, told us this: “It is always a joy to see our young people experience the value of service above self. In this case, the opportunity to express thanks to those who sacrificed so much for them to enjoy the freedoms they experience is invaluable.”

Williams also referenced us to the following quote from Frederick Douglas: “It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men.”
A little online research cited Douglas, a former slave, as “an American social reformer, abolitionist, orator, writer, and statesman” who was “the most important leader of the movement for African-American civil rights”.
And we will conclude our coverage of this year’s EWM event with the following photos of what appears to be such strong children being built on the campus of, not only E. Wilson Morrison Elementary School, but one would hope all the public school campuses in the Town of Front Royal and Warren County, Virginia, among others state-and-nationwide.
But back to May 14, off Crescent Street in mid-downtown Front Royal, thanks again to E. Wilson Morrison Elementary School, its students, Early Act Club, the Bobcat Chorus, and others involved for kicking off our local Memorial Day remembrance.
Well done once again.

The EWM Bobcat Chorus is ready to start the musical backdrop of the event, and below does so under the direction of Thomas Hasset, and then takes a break.

The handing out and planting of the American Flag throughout the school’s central entrance area, including the Bobcat Chorus performance area.

Both adults and students have successfully ‘planted’ the American Flag throughout the ceremony area.

As the event reaches its final phase, Chorus members playfully let visiting adults know they are first in line for the prepared snacks about to be distributed. And a final shot of the EWM entrance area’s planted ‘garden’ of lost-in-combat veterans, acknowledging U.S. flags.
