From Farms to Hospitals: Clark Named Virginia’s Community Star

Published

on

N. Travis Clark, a dedicated healthcare executive and Valley Health vice president of operations for Page Memorial Hospital in Luray and Shenandoah Memorial Hospital in Woodstock, has been recognized as Virginia’s Community Star by the National Organization of State Offices of Rural Health (NOSORH). This national accolade highlights Clark’s exceptional contributions to rural health and community engagement.

N. Travis Clark

The award, part of the Community Star Recognition Program established in 2015, coincides with National Rural Health Day on November 21. It acknowledges individuals and organizations making significant differences in rural communities. Clark is Virginia’s sole honoree this year, joining a distinguished group of over 300 leaders recognized since the program’s inception.

Brandon Rivenbark, rural health program manager with the Virginia State Office of Rural Health, praised Clark’s commitment, stating, “In addition to managing two Critical Access Hospitals, Travis actively collaborates with local leaders and organizations to improve rural health for the people of these communities.”

Tackling Food Insecurity and Building Community

Clark’s upbringing on a family farm in Page County inspired one of his standout projects: establishing community gardens on Valley Health campuses in Page and Shenandoah counties. These gardens have flourished, yielding over 7,000 pounds of fresh produce this year. They also serve as gathering spaces, fostering social connections and education opportunities.

Leadership Beyond the Local Level

Clark’s influence extends statewide as a member of the Virginia Hospital and Healthcare Association’s Rural Health Task Force. The task force recently delivered a comprehensive report addressing challenges in rural healthcare, including expanding access to behavioral and maternal health services, improving transportation networks, and enhancing workforce development.

Reflecting on the award, Clark remarked, “I am deeply honored to receive this recognition. Advancing rural health requires a team effort, and I’m grateful to work alongside so many dedicated professionals committed to serving our communities.”

About Valley Health

Valley Health serves over 500,000 people across Virginia, West Virginia, and Maryland. Its network includes six hospitals, numerous medical practices, urgent care centers, and other services to improve regional health and well-being.

This recognition underscores Clark’s tireless advocacy for rural health, a mission deeply rooted in his community values and professional dedication.
